Hello Spring! While it isn’t exactly spring at the moment, we are already experiencing warmer weather here in Denver. With warmer weather, comes a change in wardrobe and you may be wondering what to do with your fur coat. The first thing we recommend is that you do not throw out your fur jacket just because of a new season - afterall it is an investment! But we have put together our three tips that you need to know.
#1: Proper Place
The first step in storing your fur coat is to pick the perfect place. The perfect place to store your coat is a dark cool place, away from any direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can affect the color of your coat over time - no one wants that! Even a closet near a window with direct sunlight won’t be the best place. Keep that in mind. Fur thrives in colder conditions, after all that is why most people purchase a winter coat. Do your fur a favor and store it in a cool place.
#2: Proper Process
Ever use moth balls in your closets? Do not do this when it comes to fur coats. Moth balls tend to absorb moisture, which can make closets and other storage spots humid. Humidity is one of the worst things you can do for your fur coat, so try to limit it when possible. You’ll also need to get the right hanger - you’lll need a broad shoulder wood hanger so that the coat doesn’t lose its shape while hanging. Also, we encourage that you keep the coat hanging versus laying down, and purchase a cloth bag to help keep dust and other dirt off your coat while it’s in storage.
#3: Proper CareÂ
As long as you follow the aforementioned two tips you should be fine! However, there are some additional things you can do during the “off†months to help increase the life of your fur. Such as ensuring there are no other clothes/hangers touching the cloth cover and fur jacket. We also recommend that you occasionally remove it from your bag and wear it. Just remember to keep it sheltered from the elements.
