Taking your Denver leather jacket on the go

November 18, 2021

As travel bans are beginning to lift, you might be ready to jet off to a faraway destination...or maybe just down the road! As you are packing your bags, don’t forget to grab your favorite wardrobe staple - your Denver leather jacket. However, traveling with your favorite piece of leather can cause a few problems. Depending on the duration of your stay, it is important to be cognizant of your belongings to keep them safe. Plus, with a little extra effort, you can arrive at your destination with your clothes in great condition, without wrinkles—saving you time from having to iron or steam them. Use these tips the next time you travel!

Bringing a leather jacket along for a trip is a great way to stay warm. Leather is a very breathable fabric, that helps retain heat but will not make you warmer when you move indoors. When packing light, bringing your leather jacket is great since it can be worn in a variety of styles. When packing your leather jacket, fold it properly to avoid ruining it. First, fold the shoulders together while extending the collar. Next, take both sleeves and make sure they are lined up together then lay the jacket flat, where the jacket and sleeves are lined up. Fold both arms over the jacket when lying flat, keeping it in a vertical position. Fold the jacket in half, keeping the collar and all elements in place. You can fold one more time to make it smaller. Once arriving at your destination, unpack it immediately and hang it in a closet with low humidity and little direct sunlight.

For your cloth items, you can make room for your leather by rolling the rest. This is a great way to save space and allow for more room in your suitcase. Simply take your shirts or pants, fold them in half, then roll them up. Set it in your suitcase and move on to the next. Save a space near the top of your suitcase for your leather, allowing you to pull it out immediately when you arrive. If you will be staying somewhere for days, you can unpack all of your clothes to keep them from wrinkling. Be sure to learn the best way to pack a suitcase as you prepare for your travels.

When packing for a trip, we often think about packing the clothes and spend little time caring for them after we’ve worn them. When packing, bring a laundry bag to store dirty laundry. You can roll it to conserve space. With your leather jacket, use the same folding technique as you used to pack it. Make this one of the last steps you take when packing. Once you get back home from your travels, reach out to a local leather expert to see if your leathers need to be cleaned after being on the road with you. While leather does not need to be cleaned as often as other clothing, you may have gone in environments or spilled liquids on it that need to be fixed as soon as possible.
