With fall in full swing and Halloween only a few weeks away, we felt it was a great time to discuss some tips for rocking your leather jacket during this years’ festivities. Whether your trick-or-treating with little ones or incorporating your jacket into this year’s costume, we have rounded up a few things you should consider on this ghoulishly delightful holiday.
Do pair with a costume
Your leather jacket is great inspiration for a number of Halloween costumes! For the perfect 1950s biker boy (or girl) costume, wear your favorite black bomber or motorcycle jacket with a pair of cuffed jeans, a white t-shirt, and slicked back hair. For those with brown leather jackets, consider pairing with wide-leg khakis, a black shirt, and a dark brown fedora to transform into everyone’s favorite archeologist. For a famous flying female inspired look, pair your favorite bomber jacket with high-waisted trousers, a silky scarf tied at the neck, and an aviator hat with goggles. With endless possibilities, your leather jacket is the perfect addition to an impromptu or DIY Halloween costume.
Don’t mix with makeup or paint
Although it may be tempting to paint on your leather jacket to transform it into the perfect costume accessory, we seriously recommend that you do not. Fabric paints and sticky decals can cause stains or leave residue that cannot be removed by even the most specialized of cleaners. If you absolutely must have your jacket customized for your Halloween costume, it is very important to consider if it is worth potentially ruining your investment piece. If you can, we recommend skipping this part of the costume or purchasing an inexpensive jacket to customize. Also, if your costume involves heavy makeup on your hands, collar, chest, or neck consider skipping the leather jacket. These items have oils and dyes that can have bad interactions with your leather jacket, drying it out or creating hard to remove stains.
Do add style to your trick-or-treating
Whether passing out candy or taking the little ones for a socially distant trick-or-treat, wearing your leather jacket with or without a costume is great for Halloween! With fall temperatures ranging from mild to downright blustery, a leather jacket can help keep you keep warm and stylish while walking with the kiddos or handing out treats. For those with newer leather jackets, this can also be a great opportunity to break-in your jacket.
Don’t wear in the rain
Some leather does not respond well to water or being soaked. Because of this, we highly recommend you check the care instructions on your garment and the weather prior to your Halloween outing. If you will be spending lots of time outdoors and heavy rain is in the forecast, consider something that is more water resistant.
