Create the perfect custom Denver leather jacket this fall
As autumn approaches and temperatures cool, you may be considering purchasing a new Denver leather jacket. If that is the case, now is the perfect time to invest in a custom leather jacket from Jonval Leather and Furs. Although you can always buy a beautiful, ready-made jacket, custom allows you the opportunity to own a perfectly tailored and truly one-of-a-kind piece. With a custom leather jacket, you have complete control. Say goodbye to awkward fits, too-short lengths, and not-quite-right styles. If you are ready to create the perfect custom leather jacket for your wardrobe, follow our process guide below.

Consider what you want
Before setting your appointment with one of our expert leather designers, consider what you are looking for. Making the decision to invest in a custom piece requires a lot of decision making. A great place to start is collecting photographs of what you like. See a studded pocket or slim style you know would look great, save, or print, a picture of it. You can also create a list of fit issues or problems with past jackets to help your designer avoid those mistakes. By taking the time to prepare what you would like for your dream jacket, you can help your designer make it a reality!

Set the appointment
Once you have a design in mind, fill out a request form here. After the form has been submitted, your designer will reach out and help you schedule your first appointment.

Design your dream jacket
Working directly with our expert designers, you will discuss exactly what you are looking for in a custom jacket. You will be presented with endless options regarding color, grade, material, fit, and style. As your designer works tirelessly to make you dream jacket a reality, you will be presented with multiple sketches of the jacket design. You will review these and offer feedback until the sketch is exactly what you are looking for. Once that happens, the fun starts. Our designers will use your exact measurements and preferences to assemble your perfect jacket.

Rock your leather jacket
Custom leather jackets can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks to complete (unfortunately, perfection takes time). However, your designer will regularly update you on the status of your garment. Once you have received your custom leather jacket, it is time to rock it! Just remember to protect your investment by taking proper care of it. Always check with your designer for specific guidelines to break in and store your jacket safely.

Styling your Denver leather jacket this Fall

August 13, 2020

Styling your Denver leather jacket this Fall
With cooler temperatures fast approaching, you might be assembling your autumn wardrobe. If that is the case, be sure to have your Denver leather jacket handy. A timeless piece, your leather jacket is the perfect addition to any fall outfit! If you are ready to rock your leather jacket, check out a few of our favorite fall styling tips below.

Play with plaid
Plaid flannels and button downs are the perfect fall wardrobe staple. What makes them even better, they look great when paired with your Denver leather jacket. This chic combination is a fantastic unisex option that can be dressed up or down, depending on your needs. Create a casual look by pairing your plaid shirt with a shorter, fitted bomber or motorcycle jacket. Leave the jacket unzipped and plaid untucked, allowing the shirt to hang effortlessly below your jacket on top of your pants or skirt. For a more polished look, use your fitted leather jacket in place of a blazer on top of your button-up plaid shirt. For this look, try leaving your jacked zipped halfway to create an edgy but elegant ensemble. You can also try wearing your favorite plaid shirt unbuttoned over a white tee, underneath your black leather jacket. This layered look offers a great pop of color, showcasing your effortless style.

Try a scarf
From long, chunky cable knit to short, soft cashmere- there is a scarf option for everyone. Scarves can add warmth and style to any outfit, especially when paired with a beautiful leather jacket. A great accessory for men and women, wearing a scarf with your leather jacket instantly adds a touch of cozy sophistication. Try an oversized infinity scarf in a mustard yellow or oxblood for an elegant splash of color. For colder days, consider rocking a longer scarf in a no-fuss Parisian Knot. This look pairs perfectly under any zipped-up leather jacket, while keeping your neck nice and toasty. If you prefer your scarf oversized, drape it over your fitted jacket, like a shawl, for an extra layer of warmth and style.

Go grunge
Look effortlessly cool this fall by pairing your leather jacket with a grunge-inspired outfit. To achieve the perfect 90s rocker look, simply pair your favorite graphic t-shirt, distressed jeans, and doc marten style boots with your bomber or motorcycle jacket. For an even edgier ensemble, try going monochromatic with a black t-shirt, black jeans, black studded boots, and black leather jacket. Add even more 90s vibes to your outfit by tying a flannel around your waist and sporting a black beanie.

Taking care of your leather jacket

Taking care of your leather jacket
From the classic bomber to cafe racer, there is truly a leather jacket for every style and taste. Your Denver leather jacket is a timeless piece that, when properly cared for, can last decades. However, many are unaware of the best practices when caring for their Denver leather apparel. At Jonval Leathers and Furs, we know all about the importance of leather upkeep. Because of this, we have compiled a few tips to keep your leather jacket looking fresh for years to come.

“No wire hangers, ever!”
Much like oil and water, wire hangers and your Denver leather do not mix. Although this might seem a bit dramatic, wire hangers can severely alter your leather jacket, especially in the shoulders. Instead opt for a wide, preferably padded hanger. Be sure to hang your jacket in an area that is well ventilated and away from extreme heat or sun (see tip 3). You should also make it a habit to hang your jacket, rather than folding it. Keeping your leather jacket folded for extended periods of time can cause unwanted creases and other types of damage that may not be repairable.

Check the weather
Although we always encourage you to rock your Denver leather jacket, if there is significant rain on the horizon, it might be best to leave the leather at home. Prolonged exposure to a good deal of water (think torrential downpour) can cause damage. If your jacket does get caught in the rain, do not fret! Water exposure most likely will not ruin your prized possession but be sure to hang your leather jacket to dry on a proper hanger (see tip 1) away from direct heat as soon as you possibly can. If you live in an area with frequent rain, consider consulting with our leather specialists on waterproofing options and the best type of leather for your climate.

Clean and store properly
Do not put your Denver leather jacket in the washing machine (we are so serious). Tossing your leather jacket in the wash can cause irreparable damage and ruin your favorite leather piece. Instead, we highly recommend you utilize our outstanding cleaning services. For small stains, a slightly damp cloth can sometimes do the trick. However, we highly suggest you consult with our experts before trying to remove any stains yourself. If you find a small hole or rip, do not try to mend it yourself. Instead, make an appointment with our fantastic team of tailors. When storing your leather jacket at home, be sure to keep it in a dry, well-ventilated space with plenty of room to breathe. Do not allow your jacket to be exposed to direct heat or sun, as this can severely dry out your leather, causing it to become brittle and crack.

Upcycling your Denver fur coat

July 20, 2020

Upcycling your Denver fur coat
Your Denver fur coat is a timeless, luxurious statement piece that, when properly cared for, can last for decades. In fact, the fur coats longevity is one of the many reasons why people love them. However, with an almost 60-year shelf life, you may be wondering, “How can I upcycle my fur coat?” Whether your tastes have changed, you want an updated look, or are just searching for something new, upcycling your fur coat is a fun way to make a change! Listed below are some of our favorite options for you to explore.

Update with alterations
Alterations are a wonderful way to change and customize your Denver fur coat! This is a great option for pieces that have been properly cared for and have linings that allow alteration (this can be easily determined by the experts at Jonval). Maybe you are looking to modernize your garment; an excellent and easy option is shortening its length. You could also consider tailoring the shoulders, changing the sleeve shape, or even turning your fur coat into a funky vest.

No longer care for your furs color or length? A fantastic thing about fur is it can be dyed and trimmed (by experts, of course) to dramatically change its appearance. If altering the fur is not an option, you may be able to turn your beloved coat into a cozy coat lining! You could also add fur pieces to your favorite non-fur coat. Repurposing your fur coat into a beautiful collar, sleeve flourish, or trim could be just the change you are looking for
.
Think outside the Coat
If your fur coat has seen some better days, it may not be the best candidate for alterations. Do not fret! One amazing thing about fur is its versatile nature. In fact, you might be surprised at all the unconventional upcycle opportunities there are. A great option to consider is repurposing your fur coat into a fabulous home accessory like a luxurious blanket or throw. Want to add more style and comfort to your ride? Transform your worn fur into the ultimate seat covers.

If your fur piece is not quite large enough to transform into a blanket or seat cover, consider converting your fur into a beautiful accessory like cozy, fur-lined gloves or a plush scarf. Winters in Denver can get very cold, brave them in style with an upcycled hat or comfy earmuffs. You can even transform your former fur into less traditional pieces like earrings, bracelets, or an adorable teddy bear!

If you are interested in upcycling a fur coat or looking to purchase the perfect Denver fur coat, come visit us at 6880 East Evans Avenue to view our amazing selection of fur and leather. Did you know we also offer fur and leather storage during these hot summer months? Jonval’s fur vault is temperature and humidity controlled to ensure the best care of your treasured pieces. How to style your Denver leather bomber jacket

July 10, 2020

How to style your Denver leather bomber jacket
From its WWI origins to its current prevalence in street style, your Denver leather bomber jacket is a truly timeless piece. Adorned by punks, police and pilots, the bomber or flight jacket is a versatile wardrobe staple for men and women.  It is this versatility that allows endless styling options. Whether you want to stand out in the workplace or take the perfect selfie, check out these tips for styling your Denver leather bomber jacket!

Mix with formal pieces
Adding your leather bomber jacket to semi-formal outfits is a great way to add a little edge to your style! For men, the fighter jacket is a great alternative for a traditional blazer. Pair with fitted trousers and a collared dress shirt to create a sleek, unexpected look. For women, pair your favorite midi-dress and ankle-high boots with your fighter jacket for an elegantly cool look. You can also try combining this look with a chic high pony-tail or top-knot to show off your bomber jacket’s neck and shoulder details.

Pick the right shoe
Shoes can make or break any outfit, especially when paired with a bomber jacket. Investing in quality boots is always a great idea, as boots with your leather jacket will never go out of style. For women, try ankle or heeled boots to add a bit of sophistication. For men, try a classic Doc Marten style. Maybe you are looking for something different? If so, there are plenty of great alternatives! For women, try a vibrant red or print heel for a fun, funky vibe. For men, try your favorite pair of dress sneakers to keep the look polished and casual.

Jeans and a Tee
A leather bomber jacket and jeans are practically perfect. This classic combination may seem a little safe, but who says safe can’t be stylish? A crisp white t-shirt, the perfect subtly distressed jean, and a bomber is always a great option for both sexes. For men, try a slim-legged jean with a crew-necked logo t-shirt for a slightly edgier look. For women, mix your favorite light-wash jean with a black turtleneck or high-neck top for something effortlessly hip.

Have fun with it
Ultimately, style should be fun! Pair your bomber with what you feel comfortable in. If you like the way it looks, rock it. There are no concrete rules to fashion and style (although we do highly suggest keeping certain body parts covered). Your Denver leather jacket is an investment piece that should bring you joy when you wear it.
