How to Prevent Extensive Leather Repair in Denver This Winter

How to Prevent Extensive Leather Repair in Denver This Winter
There’s nothing better than brandishing your stylish leather clothing in the winter. The only downside is the danger you impose wearing leather in the harsher weather and lower temperatures. But how can you prevent extensive leather repair in Denver this winter? Here are a few tips to help you out this cold holiday season avoiding costly trips to a leather repair shop in the Denver area.

Hang Up Your Jacket
If you find yourself frequently wanting to wear leather clothing this winter, especially leather jackets, you should make sure you hang them up after wearing the article of clothing. In case you got water or dirt on it, this will help make cleaning your leather clothing a lot easier, also preventing unnecessary wrinkles from regular use. Not to mention, no leather clothing should be kept in a giant heap. Remember, you spend good money purchasing your leather clothing, make sure to treat them well. The more time you spend on extending the life of your leather apparel, the better you’ll feel owning these expensive articles of clothing.

Treat Regularly with a Leather Moisturiser
If you’re wondering what you can personally do to ensure your leather clothing is kept in good condition and prevent cracking, which would require expensive leather repair, you should treat your leather clothing regularly with special leather moisturizer. This product will help prevent your leather clothing from drying out, especially in the colder weather. Fortunately, most leather moisturizers don’t cost more than $20 and can last quite a while, even with regular application. Although upkeeping your leather clothing may seem like a lot of work, it beats needing to pay hundreds of dollars a year in leather repairs.

Make Repairs as Soon as Damage Occurs
If you do need to get your leather jacket, pants, or gloves repaired, you should do so immediately. The longer you wait to get your leather apparel fixed, the worse the damages are going to become and the more money you’re going to have to pay. Although no one enjoys paying for repairs, your leather clothing will appreciate the care. Plus, your local leather repair shop might even have some suggestions for preventing a rip or tear that you caused in the first place.

Avoid Wearing Leather in Poor Weather Conditions
Although this may be challenging to do, you should avoid wearing a large quantity of leather in poor weather conditions without treating them first. Although a leather jacket may seem cool to wear during a snowstorm, you should consider wearing a fur coat in Denver instead. However, you should be okay if you have your leather apparel professionally treated before wearing them in the bitter winter weather.

There’s a lot to consider to prevent extensive leather repair in Denver this winter, from hanging up your jacket and other leather apparel to avoiding wearing leather in poor weather conditions. Hopefully, you could get a few ideas on how to prevent leather damage to your apparel this cold holiday season. However, if you do have repairs that need to be made, make sure to stop by our store, Jonval Leathers and Furs, at 6800 E. Evans Avenue here in Denver. Our staff will be more than happy to look over your leather clothing and make necessary affordable repairs.

The key to purchasing a Denver fur coat

The key to purchasing a Denver fur coat
Purchasing a fur coat is a tough decision, and it can often times be overwhelming. Fur is a luxury purchase, and while you should certainly treat yourself there are a few things you need to know before moving forward with your fur coat purchase. There is no need to fear - we are here with the information you need to know before purchasing a Denver fur coat!

Each Denver fur coat is created differently. While two coats might look alike, they are constructed out of different fur pelts. Think about animal fur in general, while a group of animals might look the exact same...they might have spots in slightly different places or birthmarks of some type. No matter what coat you purchase, you will truly be getting a unique pelt. The fur coats are constructed by taking strips/squares of pelts and sewing them together to create a beautiful fur coat just for you.

There are many factors that can impact the cost of your fur coat, but what it really will come down to is type and quality of the fur. If you are on a budget, be sure to speak with the fur seller so they can ensure you stay within your price range. Here are the most common types of fur you’ll likely come across when purchasing a coat:
  • Chinchilla: This fur is light, soft, silky, and extremely comfortable. Because of its versatility and softness, Chinchilla fur does tend to be some of the most expensive fur you can buy.
  • Beaver: Beaver fur is very versatile and long-lasting. While most of these coats will come in a natural brown, it’s going to be one of the most durable jackets that money can buy. Beaver jackets are perfect for those wanting a jacket they can wear out often.
  • Coyote: Speaking of durable and long-lasting jackets - coyote fur is growing in popularity because of just that. Not only is it durable and long-lasting, but it has unique silver and brown hues that give this type of fur a very casual look.
  • Fox: If you are looking for a wide-range of color options, you should give fox fur a glance! Fox is one of the best types of furs for those looking for a few different color options or even for those wanting to purchase a few fur coats, all that have different looks and colors.
  • Lynx: Luxurious and beautiful, Lynx fur is show-stopping. There are three types of Lynx fur you can commonly get - American, Canadian, and Russian. The prices go up, respectively, and ultimately the type of Lynx fur you get should depend on how much you are wanting to spend and the quality you are looking for. To give you perspective, American and Canadian fur typically range from $2,000 - $6,000...while Russian Lynx fur can reach upwards of $15,000.

Another thing to keep in mind is that fur coat needs care. You can’t wash a fur coat, and you’ll need to properly store the coat when you are not wearing it. A little love and care can truly extend the life of your fur coat - you can learn more about that here.

Taking care of your Denver fur coat

November 12, 2019

Taking care of your Denver fur coat
So you’ve purchased a real fur coat...now what? Real fur is not only comfortable and warm, but it adds a great look to any closet. However, true fur coats can require some additional daily care, but we have your need to know guide to help guide you through it.

Daily Storage
The most important part of maintaining your fur coat is to be careful about how you store your fur coat on a daily basis. Always keep your fur coat on a sturdy hanger, and store in a dust-free place. We recommend your closet, but it’s important to keep your fur coat in a cotton bag if you aren’t wearing it daily. The cotton bag allows your fur coat room to breathe and gives it a true opportunity to stay in tip-top shape.

Jewelry
Pinning broaches or other pins on your fur coat is a common and easy way to accessorize. We fully recommend that you do so, however, it can cause some severe matting on your fur coat if you aren’t careful. Whenever you wear jewelry on your coat, be sure to remove the coat before hanging.

Stay Aware of Chemicals
When putting on your coat, it’s important to stay aware of what else you have left in your daily routine. For example, if you still need to put on makeup or hair spray - do not put on your fur coat. Same with perfume. Hair spray, perfume, and other beauty products often contains chemicals that could damage your fur coat. Make sure you put your fur coat on when you are completely done getting ready.

Daily Wear
If you are wearing your fur every day, make sure that you remove the coat before sitting down for long periods of time. When you sit down, you are going to crush the fur. While doing so briefly won’t cause any serious harm, prolonged sitting can be dangerous for your jacket. If you are caught in rain or snow, when you get inside be sure to shake off your coat and let your coat hang in a well-ventilated area.
